A "Ghostbusters" firehouse proposal in New York City will have a happy ending for an English couple after she said yes when her boyfriend popped the question at the iconic location.
According to the New York Daily News, Giles Baugh, 34, a huge "Ghostbusters" fan visiting from England, made special arrangements to bring his girlfriend Melissa Ward, 23, inside the Ladder 8 firehouse in Tribeca, which is currently being renovated.
Wearing hard hats, the two walked through the firehouse before Baugh dropped to one knee and said, “Melissa, you make me so happy, and I love you so much, and I want to make you as happy as you make me. Will you marry me?” he asked, the Daily News reported.
Ward accepted his proposal, and Baugh presented her with a half-carat diamond ring.
The couple from Yorkshire, England, came to New York on Monday to shop and tour the city. The two met working at Tesco, a retail chain in England, and have dated for two and a half years. Baugh said he asked Ward’s parents for permission to propose prior to their trip, the Daily News reported.
Although Ward was not a "Ghostbusters" movie fan before meeting Baugh, she has come to love the movie as well.
“I have to be a fan,” she told the Daily News. “That’s all he talks about.”
Baugh describes Ward as the fun one in the relationship, however. “Melissa puts the fun into everything we do together,” he told the newspaper. “I’m quite a serious guy even though I have this quirky ‘Ghostbusters’ thing.”
The firehouse was built in 1903 and was used in both the original “Ghostbusters” movie and the recent reboot. Construction on the building is expected to be finished by summer.
