'Ghostbusters' All-Male Reboot Rumored to Follow Up Female Version

An all-male "Ghostbusters" reboot is reportedly in the works as a follow up the all-female version led by director Paul Feig.

A new production company called Ghostcorps, which includes Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, is looking to maximize branding opportunities of the franchise, Deadline reported.

The venture will likely include Joe and Anthony Russo as directors, Drew Pearce as writer, and producers Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Channing Tatum may also have a starring role.

“We want to expand the ‘Ghostbusters’ universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman said, according to Deadline.

The film will build on the one starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, Reitman said.

“It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies,” he said.

The all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot is set to film this summer for a July 2016 release. The all-male version is expected the following year.

Reitman has brought the staff of The Montecito Picture Co. to the studio to focus on Ghostcorps, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The news has drawn criticism, with Sharan Shetty writing in Slate
that “the real mystery here is Sony’s weird, inexplicable belief that audiences want not just two ‘Ghostbusters’ reboots but an entire universe based on the 1984 movie.”

Twitter users seemed weary of the news.
