“Let's give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his Bride Melodie on This their WEDDING DAY!! Congrats!!!!!!” tweeted Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in three of Lucas' "Star Wars" films.
“George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr&Mrs Lucas,” tweeted director Ron Howard, who attended the private affair.
The Huffington Post reported that Moyers, a Baptist minister before launching a successful broadcast journalism career, told the couple, “It only takes one person to have met the love of your life.” He then went on to quote the 13th-century Persian poet Rumi: “When I heard my first love story, I was thinking of you.”
Van Morrison flew from Ireland to play at the reception, The Huffington Post said, adding that the bride wore a white dress by Peter Soronen and changed skirts between the ceremony and the party.
Fans took to social networking sites to spread the news.
“George Lucas got married. I bet the dialogue during their courtship was terrible,” wrote @EliBraden on Twitter.
“Dating for 7 years? Beautiful AND patient,” tweeted @ericacts.
Lucas, 69, and Hobson, 44, announced their engagement in January. Hobson heads a Chicago-based investment management firm and chairs the board at DreamWorks Animation. The two reportedly met at a 2006 business conference in Aspen.
Lucas sold his television and film production company, Lucasfilm Ltd., to the Walt Disney Co. for $4.05 billion in October.
In an interview with the couple on OWN last year, Hobson told Oprah Winfrey about the relationship.
“I think it works because we are extraordinarily open-minded people and we’re open to what the universe brings us and I think we didn’t have preconceived ideas about what a partnership should be and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected.”
