Geert Wilders called for a Donald Trump-like travel ban in Europe to deter “Islamization,” as the Dutch anti-immigration leader sought to rally far-right support for the idea in the Czech Republic, The Guardian reported.

Wilders, the leader of the Netherlands' Freedom Party, was joined at a gathering in Prague by France's Front National leader Marine Le Pen, and Czech Freedom and Direct Democracy Party leader Tomio Okamura, The Guardian said.

Wilders, Le Pen, and Okamura received loud ovations during a conference at the Top Hotel, the main event of the gathering of far-right leaders, The Guardian said.

Le Pen, who lost to Emmanuel Macron in France's presidential election in May, called the European Union a "catastrophic, disastrous organization" and that the current migration flows in Europe were "unbearable."

Wilders quoted research to claim that the Czech Republic would be bordered to the north, south and west by countries that will be more than 20 percent Muslim by the middle of the century if current demographic trends hold.

"It will be almost as if you are bordering a kind of Gaza Strip on almost every border," Wilders said, per The Guardian. "We must adopt a totally new strategy. We must have the courage to restrict legal immigration instead of expanding it, even if we sometimes have to build a wall."

Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ruled in favor of President Donald Trump’s travel ban affecting residents of six majority-Muslim countries – Syria, Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen, Fox News reported.

The ban had faced legal challenged since Trump, in an effort to keep a campaign promise, established the ban by executive order in January, Fox News noted.

Wilders said European countries need such a strategy to "counter a wave of Islamization" sweeping the continent, The Guardian said. He added that Europe should reject migrant boats coming ashore as well, like Australia.

The issue over Muslim immigration has fueled a populist movement in Europe. The Financial Times reported on Sunday that in an Italian survey done by the publication and La Stampa ahead of its general election found that hostility towards migrants and fears over growing multi-ethnicity was fueling Italy's populist political forces more than a drive to leave the euro.
