Garry Shandling's Twitter account has been revived, thanks to the late comedian’s admiring friends who want to see his quirky comedy stay alive.

Their decision comes on the heels of “The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling,” a two-part, four-and-a-half hour HBO documentary eulogizing Shandling. Directed by Judd Apatow, the documentary premiered last week.

Taking a cue from the documentary’s title, Shandling’s friends are using the Twitter account as a vehicle to publish passages from his journals, notes, and diaries.

“Friends who love Garry, working with his estate, are opening up Garry’s twitter,” the first tweet reads. “We will occasionally tweet material from the writings, notes and journals he has left us: ‘Let life live through you. Presence. Compassion. Kindness.’”

More tweets followed:

Shandling died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in 2016. His death was initially attributed to a heart attack, but an autopsy revealed his cause of death to be pulmonary thrombosis.

Shandling began his career as a stand-up comic in the 1980s, and quickly developed a loyal following after the premiere of his sitcom, "It's Garry Shandling's Show," which first aired on HBO before being picked up by Fox.

The series broke barriers by opening up the “fourth wall” — the invisible wall separating performer from audience. Shandling played himself — a somewhat neurotic comedian — who was aware he was on TV and occasionally spoke directly to the people watching the show.

“I was able to get an enormous amount of footage from different people and then I realized ‘Oh, this would make a great Bob Dylan-type two-part documentary,’ so we spent about a year searching for footage and just watching footage and then a year editing it,” Apatow said of the Shandling tribute, Variety reported. “It was a pretty massive job but really fun.”
