While fans were waiting with bated breath for the "Game of Thrones" finale to air earlier this month, Kit Harrington was checking into a rehab center in Connecticut to receive treatment for stress and alcohol. The exhausted 32-year-old star, who played fan favorite Jon Snow on the hit HBO series, was struggling to accept that the show had come to an end, an unnamed friend told Page Six.
"The end of 'GoT' really hit Kit hard," the source said, adding Harington had entered the Connecticut health retreat Privé-Swiss weeks before the "GoT" finale for stress, exhaustion, and alcohol. Harrington's publicist confirmed the "GoT" star had checked into the facility.
"Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues," his publicist told the Daily Mail.
The facility, which costs $120,000 a month, has granted Harrington the freedom to leave and take regular breaks and, while he has been spotted in the small town of Madison, the actor has decided to use the time to stay at the center. His wife has supported the decision whole-heartedly, Page Six reported.
"He realized 'this is it — this is the end', it was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years," the source said. "He had a moment of, what next?"
"GoT" has taken a toll on Harrington, who previously admitted to Variety that playing Jon Snow, and the plot twists that came with it, forced him into therapy.
"My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon, when he died and came back," he said. "That was a time when I started therapy, and started talking to people."
