Gabby Giffords, a mass shooting survivor and former congresswoman, has uncorked a gun ad against Florida Gov. Rick Scott, accusing him of putting the gun lobby ahead of public safety.

The campaign was rolled out on Tuesday, days after 17 people were killed in the Florida school shooting and was financed by Giffords' gun control nonprofit organization, according to ABC News.

The 30-second clip references the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre as well as the mass shootings that occurred at Pulse nightclub in June 2016 and at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in January 2017.

"We need to stop dangerous people from getting guns, but Gov. Rick Scott made it illegal for a doctor to ask a patient if they owned a gun, even a mental health professional," the ad says.

"This law was so dangerous that a court had to strike it down," it continues.

"Gov. Scott, we need more than your thoughts and prayers. Stop putting the gun lobby ahead of our safety."

The ad was in reference to the "docs vs. Glocks" bill which was signed into law by Scott and which would have prevented doctors from asking patients whether they owned guns, had it not been shot down in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Responding to the ad, a Scott spokeswoman noted that the governor was not focused on politics but on finding "real solutions to keep students safe," The Tampa Bay Times noted.

The topic is something that resonates with Giffords, who was seriously injured after a man opened fire at an outdoor event she was holding in Arizona on Jan. 8, 2011, ABC News noted.

She was shot in the head but recovered. Meanwhile, six others were killed and 19 more were injured in the shooting.
