Frances Bean Cobain and her mother Courtney Love made their first appearance together in recent memory to attend Saturday's premiere of a Kurt Cobain documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. They were all hugs.

"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" delves into the life of the famed grunge rocker and frontman of Nirvana before he committed suicide in 1994. His daughter served as an executive producer and visual artist for the documentary that Brett Morgen directed, reported E! News.

Love, 50, had lost custody of Cobain, now 22, when she was 17 and two had been estranged until recently. The two were shown in pictures hugging each other on the Sundance red carpet in Park City, Utah.

Love later shared her feelings on Twitter about her daughter and the documentary.

Cobain shared photos, including one with her mother, from the premiere on Twitter as well on Sunday.

Rolling Stone magazine reviewer David Fear claimed the documentary – made with the help of previously unseen home movies, private journals, drawings and notebook etchings and audio recordings – takes fans to new corners of Cobain's life as an artist and person.

"Brett Morgen's documentary is more than just a must-see for Nirvana fans," Fear wrote. "It's an eight-years-in-the-making collective labor of love that offers a private peek into the artist's mind, from the first creative stirrings to the spiral downward. And by the time you get to the final shot of Kurt thanking the audience at the band's 'MTV Unplugged' show, you don't just feel as if you've gotten to know the man better. You're left completely emotionally spent."

Morgen thanked Love during his introduction to the Sundance audience, according to Rolling Stone, for allowing him free access to Kurt Cobain's material to get the documentary done.

"To say that Morgen got unfettered access to the frontman's personal belongings would be putting it mildly," wrote Rolling Stone. "There's Super 8 footage of Kurt as a towheaded toddler, banging away on a toy piano and blowing out candles on a birthday cake."
