Former Vice President Joe Biden has a new favorite word and he did not hold back this week, repeating his preferred word 30 times in a 30-minute speech to middle class Iowa voters!
Turns out, Biden, emerging as the Democrats' leading candidate for his party's presidential nomination, has a propensity for an "f" word – but it is not what you think. During his opening remarks to Iowa voters at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids Biden repeatedly used the word "folks" to the point he uttered it once a minute, on average.
For many people, it was a bit distracting and hard to hear anything else. Soon social media and pundits were on the same page.
In a matter of hours social media was flooded with video compilations looping Biden uttering his new favorite word. Most notable was a 1.47-minute clip put together by CNN poking fun at the newly announced presidential candidate.
"Biden is known for his folksy image and boy did he live up to it," remarked CNN's Jeanne Moos. From the first words out of Biden's mouth to his closing statements, he referred to his audience as "folks" no less than 30 times.
Biden, who made his first major speech on the campaign trail in Pittsburgh on Monday, stumbled through his statements and struggled to pronounce "dignity," "successful," and "hospitals," the Washington Examiner noted. His now famous speech in Cedar Rapids was also plagued by several slip ups but it was hard to hear them through his repeated use of the word "folks."
To top it all off, after his speech Biden stopped at a local ice cream parlor where he ordered himself a cone then offered to foot the bill for any other "folks" in the shop who wanted an ice cream, CNN noted.
That's all, folks!
