Florida's Tracy Durant, a 7-year-old girl in Escambia County, is being called a hero after saving her family from a house fire Sunday morning, authorities told WEAR-TV.

A county representative said that Durant ran to a neighbor's house for help when the home started to catch fire when while her 13-year-old cousin was cooking after 10:30 a.m., the television station wrote.

Emergency personnel transported the cousin to Sacred Heart Hospital in serious condition, according to WEAR-TV.

"It looked like when the stove was on and (the fire) came up top and then it kept getting bigger and bigger so I didn't want us to get killed," Durant told WEAR-TV, adding that she learned what to do from school drills.

That's when she darted to the neighbor's home, the television station wrote.

"I said can I see your phone to call 911 because our house is on fire," Durant told WEAR-TV.

The television station said that Durant's mother was not at home at the time of the fire and authorities said her quick actions helped save her cousin and another 11-month-old cousin in the home.

"I feel happy to save my baby cousin because I didn't want him to get killed," Durant told WEAR-TV. "No one got hurt except for Shemaiah (13-year-old cousin). I really don't want her to get hurt because she was watching us until momma came back."

Durant's grandmother Lakesha James told the television station she was proud of Durant's actions in the time of crisis.

"Some stuff can be saved and some stuff can't," James told the television station. "My grandbaby lost everything. I told (Durant) she saved her little cousin and she got out and ran with him and got some help. She said, 'But grandma did I do wrong?'; [I said] 'No baby you did the right thing'"

WEAR-TV wrote that the Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze.

The U.S. Fire Administration said on its website that 362 fire fatalities have been reported in the media this month. Oklahoma topped all states with 27 fatalities, followed by Texas with 25, and Pennsylvania with 24, the website noted.
