A fan punching a woman during Sunday's New York Jets game was caught on video and quickly took off on YouTube, receiving more than 1.3 million views by Tuesday morning.

"Fight started in the stands with two girls fighting. And moved out to where I shot the video," said the person who filmed the fan punching the woman during the Jets game, according to Dead Spin which originally posted the clip from the game against the New England Patriots game at MetLife Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands.  "Beer was thrown and clothing over the balcony. Security went after the guy. Didn't see what happened after that."

In the video, a shoving and yelling match breaks out between what appears to be a gaggle of Patriot fans and one Jet fan wearing a #80 Jets jersey for former wide receiver Wayne Chrebet.

The Jets fan is then seen backing up when he punches a woman in the face after she charges him, though it is unclear exactly what preceded the punch due to bystanders blocking the camera's view.

The woman, who was not identified, did not appear to be severely injured by the blow, having stayed on her feet during the assault and managed to walk away afterwards.

A Jets' spokesperson later told the New York Post that the male fan was subsequently detained by New Jersey State police, adding "We are aware of the situation and we do not tolerate that behavior."

When asked by the Post for an update on the incident, a New Jersey State Police spokesman told the tabloid the incident was under investigation.

The Jets fan was later identified as 38-year-old Kurt Paschke by the New York Daily News, which reported that in the 1990s he served three years in a state penitentiary for having been convicted of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Henri Ferrer during a fight outside a pizzeria.

"He murdered my son, and he got a minimum sentence for killing a 17-year-old boy," Ferrer’s father, Robert Ferrer, told the Daily News. "I was dead after it happened."

"I had a very nice house in Long Island, and I sold it to get away," Ferrer added. "The guy is a born criminal."

In defense of her son, Colleen Paschke, who was at the game, told the Daily News on Monday that her son — a Jets season ticket holder — was the true victim of the exchange.

"He was just hitting back to defend himself," she said. "It wasn’t done deliberately. If you see the video, they just went wild."

Paschke's mother also claimed that during the entire game the Patriots' fans were being abusive toward her son and his friends.

"He’s the victim, really," she said. "He was just concerned for his mother and himself."

Charges against Paschke are expected to be announced Tuesday, NBC reported.
