A 70-year-old woman in India has given birth to her first baby following two years of IVF treatment.
The mother, Daljinder Kaur, and her 79-year-old husband have been married for 46 years, AFP reported
"God heard our prayers. My life feels complete now. I am looking after the baby all by myself, I feel so full of energy. My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can," Kaur said.
Kaur's exact age is unknown as many citizens don't have birth certificates. The IVF clinic, the National Fertility and Test Tube Centre, said she was 72.
The baby boy named Armaan was born April 19, weighing 4.4 pounds. He was described as "healthy and hearty." The couple's own egg and sperm were used to conceive the boy.
"People say what will happen to the child once we die. But I have full faith in God. God is omnipotent and omnipresent, he will take care of everything," the boy's father, Mohinder Singh Gill, told AFP.
The couple remained infertile for decades, facing public ridicule, because Kaur's fallopian tubes were blocked, The Daily Mail reported
The clinic has helped other elderly woman give birth in recent years, including 70-year-old Rajo Devi Lohan, who gave birth to a daughter in 2006. In 2008, a 72-year-old woman from India's Uttar Pradesh state reportedly gave birth to twins, AFP said. The clinic also assisted with the birth of triplets to 66-year-old Bhateri Devi in 2010.
Twitter users shared their surprise and wonder at the birth.
