Eddie Clarke, the well-known Motorhead guitarist known as "Fast Eddie," died Wednesday at 67, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

The guitarist was featured on many of Motorhead's classic metal albums and he was a founding member of Fastway.

Motorhead confirmed Clarke's death on its Facebook page Thursday morning.

The Facebook post said Clarke had been hospitalized for pneumonia.

"Just heard the sad news that Fast Eddie Clarke has passed away," said current Motorhead member Phil Campbell. "Such a shock. He will be remembered for his iconic riffs and was a true rock 'n' roller. RIP Eddie."

Member Mikkey Dee, another Motorhead member, said on Facebook it was "terrible" news after learning of Clarke's death.

"The last of the three amigos," Dee wrote on Facebook. "I saw Eddie not too long ago and he was in great shape. So this is a complete shock. Me and Eddie always hit it off great. I was looking forward to seeing him in the U.K. this summer when we come around with the scorps."

Rolling Stone wrote Clarke "played with loose, rock & roll abandon, as his guitar roared around frontman Lemmy Kilmister's lead bass; his guitar solos were like Chuck Berry at 78 R.P.M. He took that style in a more metallic direction with Fastway, a more commercial hard-rock band he formed with former UFO bassist Pete Way."

Variety said Clarke was the last surviving member of Motorhead's classic lineup that ran from 1976 to 1982 with Phil Taylor and Kilmister.

Clarke received an outpouring of condolences on Twitter.
