Dylann Roof Burger King: Charleston Shooter Had Fast Food After Arrest

By    |   Tuesday, 23 Jun 2015 03:25 PM

Police officers bought Dylann Roof food from a Burger King near Charlotte the same day they arrested the 21-year-old for storming a church in Charleston and shooting nine people, a new report says.

According to The Charlotte Observer, Roof reportedly told the Shelby police officers who initially apprehended him on Thursday that he was. Although Roof had purchased water and chips at a south Charlotte gas station earlier that day while on the road to Nashville after the shooting, the officers bought him food from a nearby Burger King anyway.

“He was very quiet, very calm. He didn’t talk,” Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford told The Observer. “He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic.”

The Shelby police officers then turned Roof over to the FBI and Charleston officials for questioning, according to WBTV.com.

Roof freely told the investigators that he entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and attended a Bible study on Wednesday evening armed with a Glock handgun hidden behind a pouch he was wearing, WBTV.com reported. Although he claimed to reconsider the shooting while he sat through the Bible study, Roof ultimately decided to go through with it because he was “determined that no one else was going to do it.”

According to The Washington Post, a website reportedly belonging to Roof contained a racist manifesto in which the author stated, “I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is [the] most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country.”

Emanuel AME, a historic black church with a 199-year history, held its first Sunday service since the massacre over the weekend. About 800 racially-diverse people gathered to show their solidarity and support for the victims.
