Dustin Snyder didn’t let the fact he’s fighting terminal cancer stop him from marrying his high school sweetheart on Sunday.
After hearing he had just weeks to live, the 19-year-old told his mother, Cassandra Fondahn, he wanted his girlfriend, Sierra Siverio, to become his wife, People magazine reported.
The entire community joined forces to make Snyder’s dying wish a reality and within five days the couple tied the knot in a moving ceremony at The Big Red Barn Venue in Oak Hill, Florida.
Snyder, a Valrico, Florida, resident, is currently under hospice care after being diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, a day before his 18th birthday.
He underwent surgery to remove the affected lung and, with chemotherapy, doctors believed that they had effectively removed all of the cancer but three weeks ago Snyder learned that it had spread and he was terminal.
That was when he realized he wanted nothing else in the world but to marry Siverio, who he had dated during middle school but lost touch with, only to be reunited once again in high school as seniors, WTSP reported.
“I love her. She’s been there for me through this whole process,” he told The Washington Post. “I wouldn’t be able to get through any of this without her.”
Snyder’s sister started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the wedding while members of the community came forth with offers to donate food, music, flowers and even a wedding dress, People said.
The couple danced to their first dance as husband and wife to Ed Sheehan’s hit “Perfect” on Sunday.
