Dustin Diamond has completed his first round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer, according to reports. The "Saved By the Bell" star has been undergoing treatment for stage 4 small cell carcinoma, also known as lung cancer, TMZ reported. Although the cancer most commonly begins in the lungs, it manifested elsewhere then metastasized in Diamond’s lungs.
It is not clear when Diamond's next round of chemo will begin but his representatives told the outlet that he will also begin physical therapy. Diamond is reportedly maintaining a positive outlook while spending time with his girlfriend and interacting with his fans on social media.
Earlier this month it emerged that Diamond had been hospitalized after he began to experience pain throughout his body. He was also suffering from shingles and had discovered a lump in his throat, which led to the cancer diagnosis.
Sources recently revealed that Diamond was "going through a lot of pain" and "suffering" while receiving treatment.
"It's not good, it's not good at all," an insider cited by Daily Mail said. "He's going to be in the hospital for a while. He's getting through his treatments now. It's tough, it's very hard."
Since news of his diagnoses, Diamond's former co-stars, Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen, have shown their support on social media.
"I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this," Lopez wrote in an Instagram post that included two photos of the pair together- one a throwback to their days in "Saved by the Bell" and one that was taken more recently. "Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery. God Bless," Lopez added.
Meanwhile, Thiessen shared a photo of Diamond to her Instagram stories, writing "Thinking of you Dustin."
