Duggars on Life After Josh's Sex Scandal: Forgiveness 'Is a Process'

The Duggars have spoken out recently about life after a series of scandals involving Josh Duggar, the eldest "19 Kids & Counting" sibling who entered a faith-based rehab center six months ago.

Sisters Jessa Seewald and Joy Duggar, who starred along with their family on the TLC reality show, told People that they have forgiven their brother, who has been tied to more than one sex scandals over the last year or so.

"I definitely have forgiven Josh. It is a process, though, that you have to work through in your heart," Seewald told the magazine. "And trust is not quickly rebuilt. It is something that takes a while. We love him very much, though, and we are very hopeful for the future."

Joy said: “I have forgiven him and I feel that, but the trust is not there.”

Josh Duggar is currently in treatment for sex addiction at a rehab center in Illinois. He's been there since August after a flurry of scandals tainted his once-squeaky clean image. First, it was revealed that the 28-year-old married father of four molested a handful of young girls — including some of his own sisters — when he was 14. Then, he was implicated in the Ashley Madison scandal, and later admitted to cheating on his wife and suffering from an addiction to pornography.

“19 Kids and Counting” was canceled in the wake of the scandals, but the Duggars continued on in the spotlight with a three-episode special that will soon premiere as a full series, "Jill & Jessa: Counting On."

Josh's wife, Anna Duggar, speaks out about her struggles in previews for the upcoming season, which premieres March 15 on TLC, according to the International Business Times.

"I don't know what I'm stepping into," she said. "I don't know how to handle each situation. It's not anything I ever would have thought I would walk through. [I tell myself to] just do the next right thing, have the next right response for the next 15 minutes."

Josh Duggar is expected to return home to Arkansas from Reformers Unanimous “any day,” People reported.

He issued a statement last August asking for forgiveness and prayers: “I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife."

“I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.”
