"Dora the Explorer" with Michael Bay's help could be coming to the big screen possibly by 2019.

The Hollywood Reporter said Bay, best known for the "Transformers" series, will produce along with his Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, his partners at Platinum Dunes. Writer-director Nick Stoller, connected with the movies "The Muppets" and "Neighbors," has been signed on to do the script.

"Dora the Explorer," which ran on Nickelodeon from 2000-2015, was a popular animated show that followed the adventures of a 7-year-old Latina with her talking backpack and sidekick monkey Boots, National Public Radio said, adding the show was most popular with children ages 2 to 5.

Along with "The Muppets" movie, Stoller has been connected with such children's movies as "Storks" in 2016 and "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie" this year, the New York Daily News noted.

The Hollywood Reporter said that while details are being played close to the vest, the publication said the movie will likely be a live-action version focusing on Dora as a teenager who joins her cousin Diego.

Some on social media seemed surpised that Bay, the master of many action films, would take on such a children's classic as "Dora," with some using humorous memes.
