Donald Trump Restates Desire to Buy Buffalo Bills, Keep Team in NY

Real estate mogul Donald Trump is reiterating his desire to buy the NFL’s Buffalo Bills and says he would keep the team in western New York.

"I'm going to give it a heavy shot," Trump told The Buffalo News on Monday. "I would love to do it, and if I can do it I'm keeping it in Buffalo."

During his interview with reporter Tim Graham, Trump continued to try to defuse rumors that he would move the team to Los Angeles or Toronto.

"I live in New York, and it's easier for me to go to Buffalo than any other place," Trump said. "Where am I going to move it, some place on the other side of the country, where I have to travel for five hours?"

Trump said he’s willing to competitively bid for the Bills, although no one else has publicly said they have a desire to buy the team. However, singer Jon Bon Jovi is part of the Toronto-based Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment group that is expected to bid for the Bills. Media reports also indicate Dallas Mavericks owner Marc Cuban may be interested in buying the Bills.

The sale of the team, which Trump believes will happen quickly, could come as early as October with NFL owners voting on the sale sometime between December and March 2015.

Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe weighed in via Twitter on Tuesday regarding Trump’s possible bid to buy the Bills.

Trump said he owns just small stakes in two Atlantic City casinos which shouldn’t conflict with rules the NFL has against owners and other team employees from being involved in gambling operations.

Former Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson died in March at age 95.
