HitFix reports that Rhodes — aka War Machine
— has a pivotal role in the conflict with Ultron.
Cheadle appeared in "Iron Man 2" and "Iron Man 3" after taking over the role from Terrence Howard, who has since blamed Robert Downey Jr. for bouncing him from the sequels.
The sequel, which is expected to begin production early in 2014, focuses on Stark and Earth's Mightiest Heroes — Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, Chris Evans' Captain America, Chris Hemsworth's Thor and, most likely, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye — fending off the evil robot Ultron, played by James Spader.
Set to open May 1, 2015, the film will also introduce two new characters to movie fans, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively.
Films based on comic book heroes have been wildly successful over the previous decade and have been among the highest-grossing blockbusters. These include Avengers, Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man films.
