Dolce & Gabbana loves to dress first lady Melania Trump and has launched a campaign mocking critics opposed to it by letting them buy #BoycottDolce&Gabbana T-shirts.
The Italian designers revealed the #BoycottDolce&Gabbana T-shirts last week on social media, posting a series of images as well as a video portraying a staged protest where hundreds gathered to support the initiative.
The new range of plain white T-shirts, which features a red heart and #BoycottDolce&Gabbana emboldened on the front, has drawn positive feedback from the public. Melania Trump supporters took to Twitter to air their views, commending Dolce & Gabbana for the campaign.
The #BoycottDolce&Gabbana campaign follows a public debate arising after the release earlier this year of the official White House portrait of Melanie Trump, in which she wore a jacket by the Italian fashion label.
The image sparked backlash and Stefano Gabbana, who has previously praised the first lady for wearing his label, took to Instagram to thank her, reported the Washington Times.
The post immediately came under fire, but Gabbana openly responded to the attacks from designers calling for him to stop dressing the First Lady, noted Breitbart.
Melanie Trump has been a keen supporter of Dolce&Gabbana and has been pictured on numerous occasions wearing the label. In May, the first lady caused a sensation after stepping out in Sicily wearing a Dolce & Gabbana floral coat that retails for $51,500.
The Washington Post reported how Gabbana has previously been vocal about his willingness to associate his brand with the first lady, something other designers were not comfortable doing.
