Doku Umarov, Russian Islamist, Calls For Attack on 2014 Winter Olympics

Russian Islamist Doku Umarov called on his allies in a recent video to use "maximum force" to disrupt the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Guardian reported Wednesday that Umarov made the plea to terrorize the Sochi Olympics in a video dated June 2013. Sochi sits on the coast of the Black Sea in the southern Russian province of Krasnodar Krai, near Georgia.

"They plan to hold the Olympics on the bones of our ancestors, on the bones of many, many dead Muslims buried on our land by the Black Sea," Umarov said in the video, according to The Guardian. "We as mujahideen are required not to allow that, using any methods that Allah allows us."

Russia's most wanted man, Umarov leads a group called the Caucasus Emirate. The group has claimed responsibility for organizing many attacks, including suicide bombings that killed 37 people at a Moscow airport in 2011 and at least 40 people on the Moscow subway in 2010, according to Reuters.

In the video, Umarov dons camouflage fatigues and a cap in front of a black jihadist flag. He is flanked by two fighters who, like him, are bearded.

"I call on you, every mujahid, either in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan or on the territory of the Caucasus to use maximum force on the path of Allah to disrupt this Satanic dancing on the bones of our ancestors," Umarov said, according to Reuters, referring to predominantly Muslim regions in Russia that are far from the North Caucasus.

"Today we must show those who live in the Kremlin … that our kindness is not weakness," he added.

Russia is spending $50 billion on the Winter Olympics. Putin has promised visiting nations that the games will be very secure.

Kremlin-backed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said that they are hot on Umarov's trail and are determined to find him before the Games.

"He is Satan, I think and I am sure we will eliminate him before the Olympics," he said, according to Reuters. "He shot this video somewhere and will go back into his hole and hide there. A rat is nothing but a rat."
