Dog Thrown By Neck Into Fence During Soccer Game (Video)

By    |   Wednesday, 12 June 2013 09:34 AM EDT

During a recent minor league game, an Argentine soccer player senselessly grabbed a stray dog by the neck, carried it across the soccer field, and threw the animal several feet into the air, causing it to hit a fence.

The incident, which Fox Sports de Argentina uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, caused fans to pelt the player with sodas during a match between the Bella Vista team and the San Juan team in Argentina's Tucuman province.

Bella Vista player Jose Gimenez ran over to the dog, which had mistakenly wandered onto the field during the game but did not appear to be near the ball.

As Gimenez approaches the animal, it cowers to the ground and nervously wags its tail. The player then wraps his hands around the small to mid-sized mutt's neck and carries it across the field by its neck. Several seconds later, Gimenez flings the dog several feet into the air, causing it to hit a fence.

After hitting the fence, the stray appears to recover and run out of the camera's frame.

Fans react immediately, throwing sodas from the stands, and Gimenez sought cover near the team's benches, where a handful of players from the opposing team confronted him.

A referee issued Gimenez a red penalty card and expelled him from the game.

Coaches escort Gimenez off the field, possibly for his own protection, as the crowd howls.
