"Diabetes here I come" was the message printed out on the Starbucks cup label and it made a Florida customer angry enough that he sent the coffee giant scrambling to apologize, reported WJAX-TV.

The customer, who declined to go public, shared the cup's printed message with the television station. He said he ordered a grande cup of white mocha at the Palencia Starbucks café in St. Augustine, and received the offensive message on the cup.

The television station posted a picture of the cup on social media Friday.

The message was keyed in where the customer's name would appear on the label.

The unidentified customer said he has two sisters who suffer from Type 1 diabetes and the message hit close to home.

"That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback," the customer told WJAX-TV. "Just the struggles they went through and all the doctor appointments they had."

Starbucks issued an apology and a representative told the digital media website Mashable that it has reached out to the customer.

"We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and were disappointed to learn of this incident," the Starbucks representative said in a statement. "We are working directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners (employees) to ensure this does not happen again."

Responses on social media about the Starbucks message controversy varied widely.
