Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is running an ad stating that he has agreed with President Donald Trump on a range of legislation signed into law, CNN reported.

The Montana lawmaker will be trying to hold on to his seat this fall against a group of Republican contenders in a state that Trump carried by 20 points in 2016 and Mitt Romney won by 13 points, the network said.

In his video ad, Tester touted 13 bills he claimed that he helped get signed into law with Trump, CNN said. It includes reducing government waste, improving veterans' healthcare, and supporting first responders.

"Washington is a mess, but that's not stopping me from getting bills to help Montana signed into law by President Trump," Tester says in the spot.

"I'm out of fingers," Tester says holding up his left hand, which has three fingers missing from a meat grinder accident when Tester was young, noted The Hill newspaper. "But I'm not finished getting things done for Montana."

The Hill wrote that Montana State Auditor Matt Rosendale has been seen as the top candidate in the race against Tester, but faces a competitive Republican June primary that will include businessman Troy Downing and Russ Fagg, a retired district judge.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee responded to the ad with a statement Monday, charging that Tester voted on the side of former Democratic President Barack Obama 92 percent when he was in office, referring to Obama as "the liberal Chicagoan."

"Jon Tester's first campaign ad is so disingenuous it should be insulting to Montanans who voted for President Trump," Katie Martin, the committee's communications director said in a statement. "The truth is in his voting record, and Jon Tester can't hide the fact that he has voted against President Trump 80 percent of the time."

Tester, a former Montana state legislator, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 and re-elected in 2012.
