A Delta Airlines flight fist fight between two attendants forced a diverted landing last month, delaying passengers for more than an hour.

Delta flight 2598 departed from Los Angeles en route to Minneapolis on Jan. 22 when the two unidentified female flight attendants ended up brawling because of a disagreement "over work issues," The Aviation Herald reported.

The website stated that a third woman, possibly another flight attendant, attempted to break up the fight but "was hit by the flying fist." The flight was diverted to Salt Lake City where a passenger told the website that three "cabin crew" members departed the airliner.

The plane stayed in Salt Lake City for 80 minutes before returning to the air, getting passengers to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport some 75 minutes later than scheduled.

The Washington Post reported Monday that Delta issued an apology after confirming the incident.

"Delta apologizes to those customers who were inconvenienced after flight 2598 from Los Angeles to Minneapolis-St. Paul made an unscheduled stop in Salt Lake City following an altercation involving two flight attendants on board," a Delta statement said.

"The actions of these crew members in no way reflect the values and professionalism we expect from all of our employees," the statement continued.

The Aviation Herald wrote that Delta also apologized to passengers in a letter.

"Some of our team members did not display their best behavior," the letter reportedly read. "We expect our flight crew to be nothing but courteous and professional at all times and what you experienced was far from that. I am sorry we didn't deliver on our brand promise for you today."

The Pioneer Press wrote that Delta declined to say if the attendants were disciplined or if they still worked for the airline. There were no reports of police being called to the scene at Salt Lake International Airport at the time of the incident, an airport spokesperson said.
