Dehumidifier Recall Involves 2 Million Devices of 12 Separate Brands

A recall has been issued for more than 2 million dehumidifiers involving 12 separate brands that have been shown to overheat, smoke and catch fire – posing a potential burn or fire risk to consumers.

The recall was announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after the faulty devices were involved in 165 reported incidents, which included 46 fires and $2.15 million in property damage, The Associated Press reported.

An entire list of the recalled dehumidifiers, which includes capacity and date code ranges as well as brand and model numbers, is provided on the CPSC website.

To date, there have been no injuries reported in association with the recalled dehumidifiers.

The products were manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances, a Chinese major appliance manufacturer, and carried the brand names of Kenmore, Frigidaire, De'Longhi, Fedders, Danby, Fellini, Premiere, Norpole, SoleusAir, Seabreeze, and SuperClima, ABC News reported.

Major retailers such as Sears, Home Depot, Kmart, Sam’s Club, AAFES and Lowe's sold the now recalled dehumidifiers between January 2005 and August of this year.

The recall involves 20-, 25-, 30-, 40-, 45-, 50-, 65- and 70-pint dehumidifiers with the above brand names.

In total, about 2.2 million of the dehumidifiers were sold in the United States and 52,500 were sold in Canada, the AP notes.

Consumers are being advised to immediately turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact the manufacturer to receive a full refund, by calling 866-853-2802.
