Deanna Lund, veteran actress best known as a star of the late ‘60s science fiction series "Land of the Giants," died Friday at age 81, after a short battle against pancreatic cancer.

Her daughter Michele Matheson confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, saying Lund was at her home in Century City when she passed away.

Lund played party girl Valerie Scott on "Land of the Giants," which aired from September 1968 to March 1970.

The Irwin Allen-created series was set in the "future" of 1983, when a spaceship crashed on a planet occupied by giant and hostile humanoids.

Lund later said the show was "not an actors' show," SyFy Wire reported.

"We were always upstaged by the special effects," she said. "At the time I was embarrassed because it wasn't Chekhov, it was 'Land of the Giants'! I thought then, 'My God, is this what I studied acting for?'"

An obituary published on her official website noted that, by the end of the series, "Deanna Lund was one of the most popular actresses on television."

However, before her big break, Lund made several uncredited film and TV appearances, Deadline.com reported.

In 1966 the Oak Park, Illinois resident started to land more solid acting jobs and began appearing in primetime networks series such as "The Loner," "The Road West" and "Laredo."

She went on to appear in a pair of "Batman" episodes as well as alongside Frank Sinatra in "Tony Rome" before making notable appearances on popular 1970s TV shows "The Incredible Hulk" and "Love, American Style."

Lund married "Land of the Giants" co-star Don Matheson and, although they later divorced, the two remained good friends, The Hollywood Reporter said.
