David Hasselhoff has apparently had it with his last name, and he announced Thursday that he has officially changed it to "Hoff."

Or, as ETOnline.com put it, "Apparently, 'The Hoff' has had enough hassle."

But the word "apparently" appears consistently in online stories on The Hoff's name change; no one seems quite sure if the actor actually took legal action, although he presented it as a done deal with a tweet and a YouTube video.

"I've been wanting to take the hassle from my life for years," he says as he holds up a certificate. "Now I have made it official. David Hoff."

As one person commented on the YouTube video: "Who cares . . . ? And why??"

Many just couldn't stop speculating about how the actor would make a decision to get rid of the name he's used for years and years throughout his entire career.

One YouTube user thought a name change could even work against him.

"Hasselhoff is a product name . . . why  . . . would he kill his product and change his name to Hoff?"

"It's like if Chuck Norris changed his name to Chuck No! It was the only great thing about him . . . its Hasselhoffness," yet another commenter said.

But all may not be as it seems. ET Online reported that a rep for the actor said the video was part of an Australian advertisement, so everyone questioning The Hoff's decision should probably hold on for the final verdict.

Meanwhile, calling him The Knight Rider might work.
