Daniels Appears Ready to Seek GOP Nod

By    |   Thursday, 05 May 2011 02:29 PM EDT

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels appears poised to enter the race for the Republican presidential campaign, though he hasn’t made a formal decision yet. Daniels appeared at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington Wednesday to deliver a speech about education reform, Politico reports.

His pollster, media consultant, potential campaign manager, and several would-be fundraisers accompanied him. Shortly after the speech, his aides posted a YouTube link to the speech.

Story continues below video.

While other potential candidates are building themselves up, Daniels made plenty fun of himself. He told the audience that he showed uponly for the free lunch. “As Calvin Coolidge once said, ‘a man’s got to eat somewhere,’” Daniels quipped. And in another jab at himself, he said, “I was told that Darth Vader is really not that bad a guy compared to me.”
