Actor Daniel von Bargen, who played George Costanza’s boss Mr. Kruger on "Seinfeld" died over the weekend after a long illness. He was 64.

The Cincinnati native also appeared in “Malcolm in the Middle” and movies including "Broken Arrow," "Super Troopers," and "O Brother, Where Art Thou."

The actor, who had diabetes, was injured in 2012 after shooting himself in the head, telling police he wanted to avoid surgery to have some of his toes removed because of complications of the disease.

Von Bargen graduated from Purdue University, joined the Trinity Square Repertory Company and acted on Broadway before getting his break in Hollywood.

“I feel a huge wave of sorrow and relief at the passing of this remarkable man,” his friend and fellow actor Bob Colonna said. “I treasure the years when I worked with him at Trinity Rep and in a couple of TV films. I admire his excellent body of work in the movies. And I mourn for the darkness and pain that were his final years. God bless him. He was a hell of a guy.”

Von Bargen's former agents said he had been battling with health issues for the past five years.

"We remember him fondly for his easy-going professionalism and dry wit, both of which stood in stark contrast to the driven and near-maniacal roles he often performed with such energy and intensity," the agents said, according to People. "He was a joy to work with and we have missed that association since his semi-retirement to Cincinnati."

Twitter users shared condolences.
