Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, a former NFL defensive end who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died at 30, according to Bleach Report.
News of his death was confirmed by the University of Washington's football program, which shared a video to Twitter on Monday honoring the athlete's collegiate career.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also posted news of his passing on Twitter with a post stating, "We are saddened by the news of former Buc Daniel Te'o Nesheim's passing. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family."
Details surrounding Te'o-Nesheim's death are yet to be confirmed, and The Seattle Times reported that attempts to contact the Hawaii Police Department to gain more insight were unsuccessful.
In a statement released to the newspaper, Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) in Kamuela, Hawaii, noted that "Daniel, a 2005 graduate of HPA, returned to his alma mater in August of 2015 as an assistant football coach and assumed the head coach position in May of 2017."
The statement added that he was "also a member of our residential boarding program, serving as a dorm parent. HPA is working to support our students and community through this difficult time. We feel Daniel's loss acutely in our HPA 'ohana, and our hearts go out to his family and friends."
USA today noted that Te'o-Nesheim, who was a native of American Samoa, played college football at Washington.
In 2007 he led the team in sacks and in 2010 played six games as a defensive end with the Philadelphia Eagles. He then joined the Buccaneers, where he played three more seasons.
A statement released by the Philadelphia Eagles noted that, in 2012, Te'o-Nesheim started in 12 contests and had a career-high four sacks.
Upon retiring from the Eagles, he returned to HPA to take up the role of head coach.
