The Church Lady, aka Dana Carvey, returned to SNL this week to skewer Ted "Lucifer" Cruz, Donald Trump, Madonna's butt and Beyonce's latex condom-like outfit for the Met Gala.
She calls Trump the Tangerine Tornado and when introducing Cruz, played by Taran Killam, as Satan, the Church Lady refers to House Speaker John Boehner's comment calling Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh.”
The Church Lady criticizes Cruz for being "a little preachy" — "We like ourselves, don't we?" — and questions his assertion that everything happened according to God's plan — "Was it God's plan for you to get humiliated by an orange mannequin? That's kind of an odd plan for God to have for you isn't it?"
Killam's Cruz says his future plans included turning evil for a while — "I've been told to go to hell so many times I think it's finally time to check it out." He exits the interview with maniacal laughter.
The Church Lady then introduces Donald Trump, played by Darrell Hammond, who touts his biblical knowledge, listing books of the Bible including "2 Genesis 2 Furious, which says, and I quote, love thy neighbor as thyself and like a good neighbor State Farm is there. And always keep the Sabbath yuge."
After the Church Lady asks whether he has chosen a running mate — "could it be Satan?" — Killam returns as a demon-possessed Cruz. Hammond's Trump character doesn’t flinch but just insults him: "You're the first guy who got possessed and looks better."
"You're such a jerk, Donald. I'm going back to hell. They're nicer there."
Carvey appeared on SNL to promote his USA series “First Impressions,”
Variety reported. He was an SNL cast member from 1986 to 1993.
