Curt Schilling, retired MLB pitcher and an analyst for ESPN, was suspended by the sports network after posting a controversial tweet about Muslims on Tuesday.

"Curt’s tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company’s perspective. We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration," ESPN said in a statement.

"I understand and accept my suspension. 100% my fault. Bad choices have bad consequences and this was a bad decision in every way on my part," he tweeted after his suspension was announced, CNN reported.

The original tweet Schilling made compared Muslims to Nazis.

"It's said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?" said the image that Schilling made. Underneath the image, Schilling wrote, "The math is staggering when you get to true #'s."

SB Nation reported that the tweet was not the first time Schilling had shared inflammatory content about Muslims on social media.

On Facebook, Schilling has shared jokes about turning Muslim prayer mats into land mines, among other similar things.

"'Muslims = murder' is a part of Schilling's worldview and he likes telling us about it all the time. If ESPN thinks that a single instance of that line of thinking is worthy of a suspension, Schilling has already gone down that road enough times to get fired," wrote SB Nation.
