Former World Series pitching champion Curt Schilling tracked down two guys who harassed his teenage daughter on Twitter and now one has been fired and another is facing disciplinary action from their jobs.
The incident started last week when Schilling sent a congratulatory Twitter post to his daughter, Gabby Schilling for accepting a scholarship to play softball at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island.
Schilling said in a blog post that along with positive responses, he started to receive vulgar tweets, including ones that included a mention of rape,
according to NJ Advance Media. Schilling, in his blog focused on social media messages sent by people identified as Sean MacDonald, a Montclair State University graduate, and Adam Nagel, a student at Brookdale Community College.
Schilling reposted the Twitter comments the two made about his daughter in his blog.
"If I was a deranged protective dad I could have been face to face with any of these people in less than 4 hours,"
Schilling wrote in his blog. "I had to do almost nothing to get any of that information because it is all public. What part of talking about a young woman, my daughter or not, makes you even consider the possibility that this is either funny or makes you tough?"
NJ Advance Media reported that MacDonald was fired from his part-time job as a ticket seller for the New York Yankees, according to Jason Zillo, the team's director of communications. Zillo told NJ Advance Media that MacDonald worked about 18 hours over four days for the Yankees.
"We have zero tolerance for anything like this," Zillo told NJ Advance Media. "We've terminated him."
Brookdale Community College took action against Nagal as well,
according to the New York Post, stating he has been "summarily suspended and will be scheduled for a conduct hearing where further disciplinary action will be taken. The Brookdale Police are actively investigating this matter. Brookdale takes this behavior very seriously and does not tolerate any form of harassment."
