Crystal Metheney, Edward Cocaine Are Unfortunately Named Criminals

A Florida woman who was arrested last month for allegedly firing a "missile" into an occupied vehicle is just now making headlines, but for her name: Crystal Metheney.

Metheney, 36, of Polk County, Florida, was arrested in May for launching the unidentified object, but was bonded out the next day, according to the Broward Palm Beach New Times. She was also busted before in 2012 on a drug charge, though it was for marijuana, not crystal meth.

"That would have been too perfect," the newspaper wrote.

Metheney is not the only person with an unfortunate drug-related name who has had a recent run-in with Florida law enforcement. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported in May that prosecutors dropped charges against Edward Cocaine for illegally having Xanax in his possession.

Cocaine joked to the Sun-Sentinel that he was on a "natural high" after the charges were dropped against him when he proved that his prescription was authentic on May 21.

The man had to convince Judge John Hurley that "Cocaine" was his given surname during an April 15 bond hearing.

"My last name is Cocaine," the 34-year-old said a video clip that went viral on YouTube. After chuckles could be heard in the courtroom, he quietly said. "I'm used to it."

"You know, I thought I've seen it all," Hurley said at the hearing after pausing for nearly a minute. "How many times have the police told you to step out of your car in your life?"

"Just about every time I get pulled over," Cocaine said.

"I'm still trying to absorb this," Hurley said before setting bond in April.

Cocaine would later explain the unusual last name to the judge, saying it was changed in the 1920s by his immigrant relatives.

"My great-grandparents came over here from Greece and they changed it," Cocaine said. "I've been stuck with it ever since. Back then they didn't know."

Cocaine told the Sun-Sentinel that, while he was happy to get his legal issues out of the way, the attention from the bond hearing on the Internet and CNN Headline News was "pretty cool. I was famous for a minute."
