Rising country singer Justin Carter died Saturday when a gun in his pocket accidentally went off during the filming of a music video in Houston, Texas.

The 35-year-old's mother, Cindy McClellan confirmed to Fox News that the gun "went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye."

She described her son as "a wonderful person, very loving and he loved our God very much." She reminisced on how he kept a bible in his room, den and in his truck.

Carter's family are now tasked with bringing his body back to San Antonio for burial and have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs. They have also been selling memorial shirts in hope of raising additional funds.

McClellan said she was hoping that her son, who served in the U.S. Army, would qualify for a military burial but was not sure if he met the criteria. A post to the country singer's official Facebook page noted that the funeral costs fell on his family and, if the VA did not approve, they would be stuck footing the bill. It could take up to two weeks for the VA to determine whether or not to grant approval to cover the funeral costs.

Carter's death comes days after he inked a management deal and released his single, "Love Affair," Variety noted. His new manager, Mark Atherton of Triple Threat, noted that Carter had the potential to be the next Garth Brooks.

A separate Facebook post to the country singer's official page noted how Carter "always wanted to reach the top" and, although he was dead, his name and music lived on worldwide.
