Joe Coors Could Become Richest Congressional Member

Monday, 21 May 2012 08:14 AM EDT

If Republican Joe Coors gets elected to Congress this November from Colorado, he could give Rep. Darrell Issa a run for his money as the richest lawmaker serving on Capitol Hill.

Coors, the great-grandson of beer brewer Adolph Coors, is reportedly worth somewhere between $132 million and $478 million, according to the Denver Post. Issa, a fellow Republican from California, has assets valued at $156 million to $451 million.

Issa is currently considered the wealthiest member of Congress, based on his annual financial disclosure forms.

The Post reported Monday that Coors has already loaned his campaign $218,000 in his effort to unseat incumbent Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter.

But his aides say there’s no guarantee Coors will be able to self-finance his effort all the way through November because most of his wealth is tied up in family-obligated trusts.
