Coby TV Recall: Fire Hazard in Sets Sold Over Last 2 Years

By    |   Friday, 13 December 2013 07:05 AM EST

One model of Coby Electronics TVs sold over the past two years is being recalled due to a fire hazard, but customers who have faulty sets will have to contact the retailer they bought it from because Coby is no longer in business.

According to The Consumerist, a recall has been issued for all Coby TV 32-inch models sold between August 2011 and November 2013. The affected TVs have the digits M07 or M10 in the ninth, 10th, or 11th position of the serial number.

Some of the televisions reportedly contain a faulty component that could cause the set to catch fire.

Coby Electronics went out of business in August after struggling with severe financial problems and a contract dispute with fellow consumer electronics manufacturer, Philips. All of its assets were turned over to a big-name liquidation firm, but not its liabilities.

In its place, eight retailers have agreed to handle the TV recalls. Customers who have a recalled Coby TV may bring the set back to the retailer they purchased it from and are eligible to receive a gift card or some kind of refund, according to The Consumerist.

Customers are encouraged to contact one of these eight retailers:

ABC Warehouse: (855) 510-0070

Best Buy: (800) 566-7498 or and click on Product Recalls at the bottom of the page for more information.

Fry’s Electronics: at (877) 688-7678

h.h. gregg: (888) 723-7385

Nebraska Furniture Mart: (800) 359-1200

P.C. Richard & Son: (866) 312-4493

Sears/Kmart: (888) 852-3571

Toys R Us: (800) 869-7787

But those stores aren't the only ones that carried Coby Electronics, so it's likely that customers who bought the TV from a different retailer won't be able to return it.
