Christina Ricci set the Internet abuzz unintentionally this week when a photoshopped image of her as Morticia Addams, her fictional mother, appeared online to the pleasure of fans.
Ricci, who played daughter Wednesday Addams in the 1991 movie "The Addams Family" and a 1993 sequel "Addams Family Values" opposite Anjelica Huston's portrayal of Morticia Addams, is all grown up now at 35,
noted People magazine.
Ricci's face appeared on the photoshopped image on
Tumblr that was posted on Saturday.
"According to some detective work done by Yahoo! Movies, the image was photoshopped, based on a promotional image of Anjelica Huston in character as Morticia Addams …," said People's Drew Mackie.
Russ Burlingame of
Comicbook.com said the post sparked a lot of interest on the Internet, including from fans longing for another sequel or reboot.
"Christina Ricci may have played Wednesday Addams in a pair of feature films in the '90s, but today she's getting the Internet's attention as Wednesday's mother, Morticia," Burlingame wrote. "Fans, predictably, started baying for a reboot immediately. It seems unlikely given Ricci's recent aversion to commercial fare, but who knows?"
Ricci starred this year in the Lifetime television mini-series "The Lizzie Borden Chronicles," and is filming the movie "Mother's Day," opposite Courteney Cox, Susan Sarandon and Sharon Stone. That movie is due out in May, 2016.
Some on social media noticed the photoshopped image and others fell for the fake image.
