Melissa McCarthy fans were outraged earlier this month after a U.K. movie poster for her upcoming comedy "The Heat" showed the actress' face and neck had been heavily Photoshopped to look slimmer, and now supermodel Christie Brinkley is speaking out about the digitally altered photo.

McCarthy, who has faced criticism about her weight before, appears practically disfigured in the U.K. version of the movie poster, something Brinkley said is totally unnecessary.

"I've been Photoshopped before," Brinkley told Entertainment Tonight. "I think it's kind of weird to do that with actors because obviously you can't Photoshop a movie and you're going to be seeing the actors as they are in the movie; you get to know actors and you just love them the way they are… we all love Melissa McCarthy just the way she is.

"Everything gives the message [that] it's not okay to be old, it's not okay to be fat, it's not okay to have any imperfections," she continued. "I wish that there was some way we could change that."

Twitters users were outraged that McCarthy's appearance was so drastically edited.

This isn’t the first time McCarthy has faced criticism about her weight. In a February New York Observer review of her movie "Identity Thief," film critic Rex Reed described the actress as "tractor-sized" and called her a "female hippo."

McCarthy responded to the comments just last week.

"I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate," she told the New York Times. "I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids, who are mooning me and singing me songs."

"The Heat" hits theaters June 28.
