Chrissy Teigen used a guest column in Glamour magazine to open up about her battle with postpartum depression and anxiety after the birth of her daughter Luna, now 11 months old.

Teigen, a former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and co-host of “Lip Sync Battle” who shared about her and singer husband John Legend's journey through infertility before Luna arrived, said that even though she loved her daughter and her life with her husband she felt unhappy and anxious often after giving birth and didn’t leave the house for months except to go to work or to a work-related event.

“I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet for much of the last year, I felt unhappy,” she wrote in Glamour.

Teigen, who had been energetic and opinionated, didn’t feel like herself anymore and experienced many physical symptoms such as pain in her back and wrists as well as loss of appetite and nausea. Finally, she went to the doctor and he diagnosed her with postpartum depression and anxiety.

Teigen said she started taking an antidepressant and seeing a therapist, and that “all of the really bad days — the days that used to be all my days — are gone.”

She said she didn’t really know anyone who had postpartum depression prior to her diagnosis and didn’t think it would affect someone like her, who had never been depressed before. Although she didn’t really want to draw attention from talking about it, she also doesn’t want it to carry a stigma either, so she wrote the essay to share it.

Now that she’s feeling better, Teigen told People magazine she could see expanding her family someday. “I love John and Luna more than I can imagine loving anything, and John and I still hope to give Luna a few siblings,” she said. “Postpartum hasn’t changed that.”

Twitter cheered Teigen's willingness to share and get help.

Teigen also followed up with an admonition to not tiptoe around her because of the diagnosis.
