Chrissy Teigen and husband John Legend are reeling in shock after the loss of their unborn baby. Teigen was hospitalized over the weekend after experiencing severe bleeding. At the time, she said her unborn son was strong and she hoped they could make it out of the "danger zone" but on Wednesday she shared the devastating news in a post to Instagram.
"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before," Teigen captioned a heartbreaking black and white photo of herself sitting in a hospital bed with tears streaming down her face. "We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough."
Teigen wrote that she and Legend, who share Luna, 4, and Miles, 2, never picked their children's names until after they were born but this time around things were different.
"But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever," the 34-year-old model and cookbook author continued. "To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you."
After she was hospitalized, Teigen shared that her placenta was "really, really, weak," according to People. She likened it to a house that was "falling apart."
"It didn’t have a good foundation to begin with, he didn’t have the strongest chance at the very, very beginning, so all we’re doing now is trying to make sure he has a lot of fluid around him and I’m resting obviously as much as possible," she said of Jack on Sunday in an Instagram story.
"Basically, if I can make it through the next few weeks, if our little boy can make it through the next few weeks, then, you know, we can go from there and be able to kind of get through the danger zone or whatever," she added.
