Former "The Bachelor" star Chris Soules is facing two years behind bars for walking away from a fatal crash he was involved in two years ago, and may be sentenced this week.

Proceedings will continue as planned after a judge on Friday denied a request for a delay from Soules' lawyer, USA Today reported.

The 36-year-old reality TV star pleaded guilty in November to felony charges arising from the deadly accident near Aurora, Iowa, that resulted in the death of 66-year-old Kenny Mosher. Soules performed CPR and contacted 911 but left before officers arrived at the scene, KCCI noted.

By pleading guilty he was able to avoid trial and have his charge reduced to an aggravated misdemeanor for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, USA Today noted.

His lawyers requested that the sentencing scheduled for this week be delayed, stating that there was a lack of response from the prosecution to address a motion regarding a presentence investigation.

The pre-sentencing investigation report, filed by the Department of Correctional Services in January and later amended in April, contains vital information relevant to the final sentencing, including an assessment of the defendant's likelihood of committing a re-offense. In May, Soules' legal team replied to the report but have received no response from the state.

"A May 21st sentencing date does not allow adequate time for the State's response, any necessary responsive action, and the Court's consideration of Mr. Soules' motion," Soules' lawyers noted, per USA Today. "Depending on the Court's ruling on Mr. Soules' motion, responsive action will likely be necessary by Soules, DCS or both."

Soules was initially facing five years in prison but that sentence has been reduced to two years and, if a judge does not accept the plea agreement made between him and prosecutors, "The Bachelor" star may be able to withdraw his guilty plea.
