Chris Berman’s wife Katherine, married to the ESPN broadcaster for over 30 years, was killed in a “devastating” car crash in Connecticut on Tuesday. She was 67.

She died in a two-car accident about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, according to The Washington Post. The other driver, 87-year-old Edward Bertulis, also died in the crash.

According to police, the two cars — Bertulis’ 2003 Ford Escape and Berman’s 2003 Lexus SC 430 — collided on Route 64 in Woodbury, Connecticut.

Following the collision, the Escape struck a utility pole and flipped over. Berman’s Lexus went off the road into an embankment and rolled over in the water.

“This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend,” said ESPN President John Skipper, according to ESPN. “Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: he has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years. We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour.”

The accident came a day before Chris Behrman's 62nd birthday, the Post noted.

Berman recently signed a new contract with ESPN after leaving the network’s "Sunday NFL Countdown" in January, where he was the host for 31 seasons.

His wife Katherine was a teacher.

Twitter offered its condolences to the Berman family.
