A China bank spanking video in which employees were punished for poor performance has led to an apology and two bank executives being suspended, reported the BBC News
The spanking happened Saturday during a training session for Changzhi Zhangze Rural Commercial Bank in northern China. The video has been viewed more than 354,000 times on the People's Daily Facebook page.
The video showed eight employees with a trainer on stage, noted the BBC News. The trainer asked the employees why they did not "exceed themselves" in the training before spanking them with what appears to be a stick.
said 216 bank employees were grouped into 27 teams and the bottom-ranked team, which included four men and four women, were spanked.
"One employee could be seen apparently in unbearable pain that she jumped out of the row," saod the People's Daily Facebook page.
"The announcement made by the Shanxi Rural Credit Cooperatives said that this was a 'Breakthrough in Performance' training session for their employees.
"The trainers were hired from Hongfeng Leadership Academy in Shanghai. One of the trainers graded their performance on June 18, and punished those who ranked bottom by spanking and cutting hair," the People's Daily continued.
The bank stated, according to the People's Daily, that it stopped the session and asked the academy and the trainer to apologize.
"This incident also offered a great lesson to myself, that it reminds me I should improve my teaching methods," Jiang Feng, the coach with Shanghai Hongfeng Leadership said in a video post, according to CNN.
The bank added that they are considering "economic compensation" for the punished employees, reported the People's Daily.
The BBC News said the Shanxi Rural Credit Cooperatives, which regulates the bank, planned to investigate the incident. The bank's chairman and deputy governor were suspended for "failing to strictly check the content of the course."
The incident was roundly criticized on social media.
