Chimp's Drone Defense? A Poke With a Nice Long Stick (Video)

A chimp upset that her enclosure at the Burgers' Zoo in the Netherlands was being buzzed by an observational drone used a stick to knock the nuisance out of the air – all caught by the drone's camera.

A video of last week's drone takedown has garnered more than 1.3 million views on YouTube since it was posted.

"Royal chimpanzees of Burgers' Zoo have proven once again, on the morning of Friday 10 April, how intelligent they are," says the YouTube video. "The animals immediately armed themselves with long sticks to protect themselves from the prying electronic intruder."

The zoo said the drone was destroyed in the attack, according to CNN Money.

"Her first swing, a powerful downward stroke, misses, but she nails the copter with a backstroke," noted CNN. "The drone spins out of control and comes crashing down. Then an ape – maybe the same one – runs over and inspects the GoPro camera underneath the drone."

It's not the first time animals have taken offense to the prying eyes of drones. Sky News reported that a year ago a ram in New Zealand slammed into a drone after it apparently got to close to the animal.

The chimp won over many viewers on social media.
