The National Rifle Association has long sparked debate over gun rights and the Second Amendment, but there are a number of Hollywood celebrities who proudly support the NRA.

Some stars are outspoken about their views on gun rights. Others choose to carry weapons for their own safety, occasionally mentioning it and even noting their membership in the NRA.

Celebrities who support the NRA come from varied backgrounds and different sides of the political aisle, but they stand united in their views on citizens’ right to protect themselves.

Here are seven celebrities who back the NRA:

1. Miranda Lambert — This country singer and Grammy Award-winner is a lifetime member of the NRA, the Independent Journal notes. “I carry a weapon,” she has declared. “I got a death threat a few years ago and was really scared.” Unlike many celebrities, Lambert doesn’t care for bodyguards. “I am my own security,” she has said.

2. James Earl Jones — The actor revealed his NRA membership in his 2004 autobiography where he was quoted as saying, “Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.”

3. Tom Selleck — This TV and movie star considered taking on the job of president of the NRA when actor and friend Charlton Heston stepped down in 2003, but Selleck later became a member of the organization’s board of directors. He has also donated seven firearms used in his films to the NRA museum, according to USA Carry.

4. Chuck Norris — The actor and martial arts expert has been a spokesman for the NRA, including in a 2010 commercial called “Trigger the Vote,” which encouraged people to register to vote to protect the Second Amendment. He spoke out against the gun-control treaty in a United Nations arms trade policy, saying, “Over time, it represents the potential for encroachment of the greatest kind.”

5. Whoopi Goldberg — Surprisingly to many people, Goldberg is an NRA member. She admitted she belonged to the association during a 2012 segment of “The View.” However, she has pointed out that she still supports some gun control measures, such as restrictions for the mentally ill.

6. Charlie Daniels — The country music star is a lifetime NRA member. He grew up in an area where most people had guns. Children were warned to keep away from them. “So we left the guns alone until the time came when they said, ‘Okay, son, it’s time for you to learn how to handle this,’” the NRA reports.

7. Joe Mantegna — Along with his many featured roles in movies and on TV, Mantegna also likes hosting shows, including “Gun Stories” on the Outdoor Channel. Scenes from the show are often shot in the NRA National Firearms Museum.
