Cathriona White was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday just days after breaking up with comedian Jim Carrey for the second time.
Los Angeles police pronounced the 28-year-old dead at her apartment after two friends
found her unresponsive, Fox News reported. Officials reportedly found a suicide note at the scene that was either addressed to Carrey or referenced their recent split last week. Some reports claimed that White died of a
drug overdose, according to the Daily Mail.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,”
Carrey said in a statement to "Entertainment Tonight." “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
White, an Irish beauty therapist, moved from Ireland to California in 2009 and first became romantically involved with the 53-year-old
actor in 2012, according to the Irish Times. After breaking up in 2013, the couple reportedly rekindled their romance earlier in 2015 before their final split on Thursday. That same day, White tweeted a cryptic post, saying, “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. [Love] to you all."
Carrey’s romantic escapades have been covered extensively by the media since he starred in “The Truman Show” and “Man on the Moon,” both of which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. He was married to “Dumb and Dumber” cos-tar Lauren Holly, as well as Melissa Womer, and his high-profile relationship with Jenny McCarthy ended in 2010. White was the same age as Carrey’s daughter, Jane, with Womer.
