A California earthquake measured at 4.0 rocked Southern California early on Thursday morning, the latest in a string of tremors to hit the state, Fox News noted.

The shaker, which had a depth of six miles, hit just after 2 a.m. about 31 miles southeast of Anaheim, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no reports of injury or massive damage, but residents across the region said they felt the earth move.

The temblor is the latest in a spate of earthquakes to slam into the U.S. and Japan.

Two days prior, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit the Gulf of Alaska, triggering tsunami warnings for the West Coast, CBS News reported.

On Tuesday night, a Gilroy earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 struck the San Francisco Bay Area, making it the second earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater to shake up the area.

On Jan. 4, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake rattled the Bay Area, with people more than 150 miles away reporting feeling the earth moving.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 6.2 shaker struck off the coast of Japan on Wednesday, making it the third powerful earthquake to occur the Pacific "Ring of Fire" within two days, The Independent reported.

The "Ring of Fire" refers to a 25,000 mile curved basin that snakes from New Zealand through south-east Asia and Japan to the west coast of North America and South America. It is where the world's seismic activity predominantly takes place.

There have also been volcanic eruptions occurring in Japan and the Philippines, however, scientists have said the rash of natural disasters was not unusual.

"There's nothing unusual about what we're seeing at the moment," Prof. Chris Elders, a geology expert from Curtin University in Australia, told BBC. "It just so happens that these events are occurring at the same time in different parts of the region. There's not necessarily a relationship between them."
